Stained Glass Poppy Lamp Lost track...sometime in 1996 Stained glass shop closed, we moved, I lost my motivation.  It's about 1/2 done with probably 100 hours left. Maybe never
Updated: 5/27/00 - Really pretty lamp glass used, but cutting and foiling the 240 pieces is a lot of work and the fit on the two repeats currently completed is not great.   It would take lots of re-cutting to fix....who knows if I'll ever get back to this one.

Glass layout of 1st of 4 repeats on the lightbox.  This gives you a hint of what it will look like backlit as a lamp and lets you check for composition, color, grain direction and fit.

In process, wet-grinder, goggles, glass cutter and lots of little pieces.  Each piece is ground to the shape on the pattern and then rinsed, dried and set aside for foiling and assembly on the form.

Current status...deceptively complete.  Pieces are pinned into place and then tack-soldered to hold them.  Missing pieces need to be re-cut due to problems with fit or color.  Ugh, more cutting and grinding.

The backside...dang...and I thought I was pretty far along.  Once all pieces are tacked into place, the entire lamp is soldered and first row of edge trim is put into place and soldered.  Then the whole lamp is lifted off the form, the inside is soldered and the final bottom edge is attached and reinforces with piano wire.  After cleanup and touch-up soldering, the lamp is then patina'd to give the solder a softer color (typically some shade of bronze, copper or black).  The lamp would be given a final cleaning , then polished and it would be done.
